Kencur

Kencur

Kencur is very well known in Indonesian Herbal Medicine. Although known to some botanists as resurrection lily, this camphor-scented rhizoma is known only by its local name in the countries where it is eaten. Kencur in Indonesia, Cekur in Malaysia and Pro hom in Thailand. These herbs are often found in almost seasoning, not only as a seasoning but also as a medicinal plant. These herbs are often found in the yard of the population living in villages.

This plant is subject to a lot of confusion, excerbated perharps, by its lack of a common english name. Some people refer to its zedoary, although this is actually curcuma zedoaria. Others confuse it with lesser galangal, a completely different rhizoma found in Indonesia. The white or yellowish rhizoma is pounded and added to a number of dishes, and is particularly popular in Bali.
